Purchasing Manager – Full-Time

Job Summary

  • Oversee all aspects of inventory control, purchasing, and warehouse.
  • Manage inventory levels, conduct physical inventory counts, create and manage purchase orders, analyze inventory data, and negotiate contracts with suppliers.
  • Oversee the procurement and distribution of the hospital’s equipment, supplies, and services.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the availability of materials and supplies, optimize inventory levels, and drive cost savings.
  • Assure ordering, inventory control, and warehouse stocking meet the demands and needs, as well as, negotiate terms/conditions and improve policies and processes to meet cost-saving measures and cost-effective work processes regarding equipment, supplies, and tools.
  • Forecast demands for key equipment, supplies, and materials and support purchasing when applying the forecast.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to supply chain disruptions, supplier reliability, and inventory management.
  • Evaluate supplier performance; conduct supplier evaluations to ensure compliance with quality, cost, and delivery requirements; maintain pricing histories and vendor records; ensure supplier compliance with site and company requirements for safety.
  • Resolve supplier issues and disputes promptly and effectively to maintain productive supplier relationships.
  • Continually develop expertise to expand the use of inventory systems and create cost-saving processes to eliminate excess inventory and costly waste.
  • Support Accounts Payable to ensure accurate and timely payment of invoices.
  • Implement internal controls and best practices to safeguard company assets and minimize operational risks.
  • Hires, evaluates, counsels, and schedules purchasing and inventory staff; leads and mentors staff, providing guidance, training, and support as needed.
  • Ensures compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements related to purchasing and inventory control, cost reporting, contractual agreements, and workplace safety mandates; ensures purchasing documents are complete and accurate and include reasonable, accurate terms and conditions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • A degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
  • Associate degree in a relevant discipline is acceptable; along with a minimum of 3 years of experience in purchasing and inventory management, with at least 1 year in a managerial role, or a related field.
  • Experience in managing team activities effectively and efficiently with a strong supervisor and leadership ability.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of office processes, procedures, and technology.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule and ensure consistent attendance of self and staff.
  • Ability to read and interpret accounting and financial reports as well as create and present PowerPoint presentations and quality measurement reports that provide graphs, charts, and effective measurements of spending and cost-driven practices.
  • Strong understanding of Louisiana Public Bid Law.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards governing purchasing and inventory management with the ability to read, interpret, and explain policies and procedures related to procurement/purchasing duties.
  • Strong understanding of procurement processes, inventory control principles, and supply chain management concepts.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills while demonstrating excellent organizational skills and attention to detail capabilities.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions with the ability to adapt, adopt, and obtain problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Mobility: May need to walk for short periods during inspections or inventory checks.
  • Sitting/Standing: Much of the work may involve sitting at a desk or computer for extended periods, so the ability to sit comfortably for long durations is necessary.
  • Lifting/ Carrying: Capability to lift, push, pull, and carry 15 pounds. May not be directly involved in heavy lifting or manual labor daily, but may occasionally need to lift or move lightweight inventory items or paperwork.
