Job Summary
- Responsible for assisting in the delivery of healthcare and patient care management under the supervision of the Clinic Coordinator.
- Maintains patient confidentiality at all times and adheres to HIPAA guidelines and regulations.
- Collect laboratory specimens as ordered by the provider.
- Ensure effective tracking of test results, medication management, and adherence to follow-up appointments.
- Prepares patients for examination and treatment by escorting them from the waiting area to the exam room and taking medical history and vital signs.
- Explain medical procedures to patients.
- Gives injections and blood draws, assists with EKGs, x-rays, and OB/GYN exams, maintains medication records, administers medication upon prover order, and phones in pharmacy orders as requested.
- Prepares and maintains clinical supplies and equipment.
- Assists with answering the telephone, providing information as requested, and screening calls to the provider.
- Assists with scheduling tests/treatments, pre-certifying patients for hospital care and procedures, and processing referrals to outside entities.
- Demonstrate understanding of IT resources, electronic medical records, patient databases, and communication technologies.
- Cultivate effective partnerships and effectively collaborate with all practice providers.
- Provide effective communications to improve health literacy.
- Effective organization skills and the ability to maintain accurate notes and records.
- Contributes to the development of policies and procedures.
- Provides other patient care services as directed and performs other related work as required.
Education and Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited program.
- Maintain current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Medical Assistant (MA) in the state of Louisiana.
- Maintain a current CPR/BLS and MOAB (available onsite).
Physical Requirements
- Significant portions of daily assignments may involve the application of manual skills requiring eye and hand coordination in combination with finger dexterity.
- Standing, stooping, lifting, bending, and reaching.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds.
- May be required to assist patients on and off exam tables as needed.
- May be required to assist patients who have a mobility impairment, including but not limited to pushing a wheelchair, assisting patients with crutches, walkers, braces, etc.
