Radiology Department
Bunkie General Hospital performs all medical imaging exams using the latest equipment and technology. Our staff is certified in multiple areas and offers professional and friendly services. With our PACs system (“Picture Archiving Computer System”), we can have exams read by board-certified radiologists within the hour. What this means is quicker diagnosis, quicker treatment, and increased quality of care. If needed, a copy of your exam and report may be copied to a CD and given to you. We are also linked to other facilities through Nuance Power Share. We can electronically send your exam to another facility, prior to your next appointment.
There is no need to have your imaging performed out of town, even if you use a doctor from another area. We accept all physicians’ orders and offer these services:
General X-Rays
- Medical imaging of different parts of the body including extremities, chest, spine, abdomen, and head.
Fluoroscopy
- A form of real-time x-ray and using a barium-based contrast material to produce images of the esophagus, stomach, and small intestine. It may be used to help diagnose pain, acid reflux, and other pathologic findings.
Modified Barium Swallows
- Bunkie General Hospital is the only facility in Avoyelles Parish to perform Modified Barium Swallow studies on stroke and physically impaired patients. We have a certified Speech Therapist on site to evaluate the patient while the test is performed.
Computed Tomography (CT)
- We use 64 slice technology, which combines special X-ray equipment with sophisticated computers to produce multiple pictures of the inside of the body. Radiologists can more easily diagnose problems such as cancers, infectious disease, appendicitis, and musculoskeletal disorders.
Ultrasound
- Noninvasive imaging of various organs within the abdomen and pelvis, soft tissues, vascular, breast, and Echocardiography exams.
Mammography
- We are teamed with LSU Shreveport to offer mobile 3D Mammogram imaging. Give them a call at (800)582-4523 to schedule an appointment.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
- An MRI Scan (magnetic resonance imaging) uses magnetic fields and radio waves to obtain incredibly detailed images of the human body. It is a painless technique that is used to gather important information about your brain, spine, joints or other internal organs. It allows physicians to study nerves, muscles, ligaments, bones, and other tissues.
