Director of Pharmacy – Full-Time

Job Summary

  • The Director of Pharmacy at Bunkie General Hospital provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care, ensuring the safe, effective, and appropriate use of medications for patients across various departments.
  • Develops and enforces policies and procedures that promote cost-effective, appropriate and safe medication use processes throughout the organization.
  • Ensures all licenses and permits for pharmacy operations are current and in good standing.
  • Develops job descriptions and performance standards. Evaluates and counsels pharmacy personnel on their performance.
  • Ensures compliance with organization policies and procedures that apply to pharmacy services.
  • This role involves reviewing prescriptions, advising healthcare professionals on medication therapy, and overseeing the preparation and dispensing of medications.
  • Reviews prescriptions issued by physicians or other authorized prescribers to ensure accuracy and determine necessary formulas and ingredients.
  • Compounds and dispenses prescribed medications, drugs, and other pharmaceuticals.
  • Assays medications to determine identity, purity, and strength.
  • Determines the correct day supply for insurance billing using standard formulas and processes.
  • Provide patient education on medication use, potential side effects, drug interactions, dosage, and proper storage.
  • Provides consultative services to healthcare teams regarding medication management.
  • Interaction with multidisciplinary teams, patients, and their families.
  • Assist in training and educating hospital staff on new medications and protocols.
  • Supervises and directs all pharmacy personnel, including training, assigning tasks, and monitoring workflow.
  • Instructs medical personnel on matters pertaining to pharmacy.
  • Collaborates with healthcare providers to optimize pharmacotherapy and improve patient outcomes.
  • Ensures accuracy of all electronically entered data to maintain pharmacy records, billing systems, and inventory.
  • Adheres to established procedures for quality assurance, controlled substance security, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs.
  • Monitors drug inventory levels and maintains adequate medication supply.
  • Ensures compliance with all state and federal pharmacy regulations.
  • Responds to emergency and on-call situations requiring immediate pharmaceutical support.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Active and unrestricted pharmacist license in Louisiana.
  • Two to four years of related experience and/or training preferred.
  • Familiarity with pharmacy management systems and electronic health records.
